狮子坑男孩



但以理六1—28
但以理被丢进狮子坑
马代-波斯人,大利乌(古列)打败巴比伦,登上王位。王立了一百二十个总督,设立三个监察司去监管总督的工作,免得王受亏损。但以理十多岁时候,就从犹大被巴比伦人掳到这里。波斯推翻巴比伦之后,但以理已经是八十多岁的老人。他被波斯朝廷再次重用,成了其中的一个监察司。
但以理有美好的灵性,所以各方面都比其他的监察司优胜,波斯王甚至有意立他治理全国。但以理的优点招来祸患,因为其他的监察司和总督妒嫉他的成就。他们定意要陷害他,无奈找不到但以理任何把柄,因为他服侍王非常忠心又可靠。
最后他们在但以理的个人生活信仰上着手。他们游说王颁布一个禁令,无论何人在三十天内,除了向王祷告祈求外,若向任何神或人祈求,就被扔在狮子坑中。根据玛代波斯的律法,若禁令颁布了,是不能废除了。大利乌王在这班人的谄媚摆布下,终于签署了此禁令文告。
但以理知道这文告签署了,并不惧怕也不服从。他上到自己家里楼顶上的房间,窗户朝向耶路撒冷开着。他一天三次双膝跪下,在他的神面前祷告称谢,像往日一样。那些人抓到但以理违反禁令的把柄,就来到王面前控告他。他们甚至向王施压,要求王履行法律的惩罚,将但以理扔在狮子坑中。
王听见了这话,就非常愁烦;他定意要搭救但以理,直到日落的时候,他还在设法营救但以理。最后王无可奈何就下令,把但以理带来,扔在狮子坑中。王对但以理说:『你常常事奉的神,他必搭救你!』
有人搬了一块石头,放在坑口,王又盖上自己的印鉴和众大臣的印鉴,使惩办但以理的事不得更改。王回到宫里,整夜没有吃东西,也不要任何娱乐解闷,并且睡不着觉。
次日黎明,天一亮,王就起来,急忙到狮子坑那里去。他走近坑边的时候,就用哀痛的声音呼叫但以理,对但以理说:『永活神的仆人但以理啊!你常常事奉的神能搭救你脱离狮子吗?』
但以理对王说:『愿王万岁!我的神差遣了他的使者,封住狮子的口,使他们没有伤害我,因为我在神面前是清白的;王啊!在你面前我也没有做过任何错事。』
王就非常高兴,吩咐人把但以理从坑里拉上来。但以理从坑里被拉上来,身上一点损伤也没有,因为他信靠他的神。王下令把那些诬蔑控告但以理的人,连同他们的妻子和儿女都一起带来,扔在狮子坑中。他们还没有下到坑底,狮子就抓住他们,把他们所有的骨头都咬碎了。
大利乌王接着写信给住在全地的各国,各族和说各种语言的人,下令全国人民都要在但以理的神面前战兢恐惧,因他是永活的神,永远长存而他的国度永不灭亡,他的统治直到永远。他搭救人,拯救人;他在天上地下施行神迹奇事;他搭救了但以理脱离狮子的爪。
大利乌被自我牢笼,失去自由
大利乌不准国人向神或任何人祷告恳求,除了向他自己祷告祈求,这显示潜伏在每个人心中『造神倾向』。众臣子献意给王,要高举王,乃是满足王的虚荣心。王不知道,其实自己被臣子们利用来达到他们的目的,就是除去但以理。
王为着但以理的安危变得焦虑和充满挣扎。他若违反自己曾经颁下命令,就会失去威信和面子。他想做的却不能做。他不要做的,却被迫去做。王虽然好像高高在上,其实他被愚弄,受到掌控,没有真正的自由。
今天有一些人的内心也是受捆绑,好像大利乌王。他们感到痛苦,不能自由,随心所欲的行事。他们或想向某人道歉,希望和好,却跨不出第一步,因为放不下面子,放不下自我。他们或想向神认罪悔改,但是做不到,因为不能放下怀习惯,不能放下我行我素的任性的生活。
这些都是信徒很真实的挣扎,叫信仰生活热不起来,生命失去喜乐和自由。这样的人其实在伤害自己,叫自己的生命受到亏损;也是在伤害爱我们的主。人如何才能够获得生命真正的自由和勇气呢?我们来审视但以理的生命。
坚持祷告和属灵操练,生命得到释放和自由
但以理知道王下了禁令后,没有任何挣扎、恐惧、担忧或怀疑。他一如往常那样,一天三次,跪下,面向耶路撒冷祷告,敬拜神,称谢神。但以理维持固定,日常的敬拜生活。
当时但以理的祖国犹大早已经灭亡几十年了,耶路撒冷也没有了,面前是波斯王朝的荣华富贵;而违反王的禁令会被杀头,还要坚持信仰立场吗?之前,但以理有三位朋友拒绝跪拜金像,因此被扔进火窑。现在但以理只是被禁止三十天不祷告敬拜神这不是勒令他去拜偶像,他大可选择暂时忍耐一下,对吗?
虽然但以理面对以上的许多现实的考量,他还是不妥协。过去几十年王宫的权势利欲氛围也无法腐蚀他的灵性。他看神的律法远超过天子的法律。任何外在的改变都不能改变他对神的亲近与信靠,甚至在这非常时期。
但以理常常祷告敬拜神。他遵行日常的属灵操练。他与神的信仰关系使到他的生命产生一种特质。他的生命特质是真正的自由,随心所欲;面对强权和生命威胁,也毫不退却。他坚决忠心于神,忠心于王。
但以理的的生命特质,与大利乌相比较,成了鲜明的对比。
今天我们不是做到道德品行都很好了,以为自己够属灵了,才来信主,才来接受洗礼,才来领受圣餐。我们当首先立志,与耶稣建立关系。正如一个运动员或是专业人士,必须每日操练我们要天天向神祷告,敬拜神。
每个星期,我们要来参加主日崇拜,敬拜神。这样我们叫自己持续不断的与基督联合。今天很多基督徒不重视每个星期的崇拜聚会。因此一些堂会有两百位会众,但每次崇拜只有一百人出席,因为总是有一些会众因某些原因不出席崇拜。因此信徒属灵生命软弱,乃至教会无法发挥神拯救灵魂,转化社区的心意。
为何又有一些会众能够固定,经常的出席崇拜,很少缺席呢?因为他们看敬拜神是重要过其他的事。他们相信主耶稣的应许,与主连结就必得着能力。他们被基督牺牲的爱所激励,就带着感恩和乐意的心来亲近主。
希伯来书1024-25节说:『我们又应该彼此关心,激发爱心,勉励行善。我们不可以放弃聚会,好像有些人的习惯一样;却要互相劝勉。你们既然知道那日子临近,就更应该这样。 』
祈求圣灵动工,激励我们的心去天天亲近主,敬拜他,乐意的委身于他,服侍他。这样,我们就好像但以理,从上头领受智慧、灵性和能力,能够做到处危不惊,获得自由。
靠着圣灵的力量,我们能够做我们想做的,抗拒那些我们不想做的,放下不讨神喜悦的罪中之乐,而获得真正的自由。我们更可以从容的胜过面前任何的挑战和打击。
神将拯救忠心于他的人
这段叙事充满反讽意味。大利乌王从颁布禁令者,变成被囚禁者。他纵然不情愿,心中愁烦和焦虑,没办法不把但以理扔在狮子坑。但以理从容不畏惧的继续忠于神也忠于王,而那些机关算尽,要陷害但以理的人,最后自己和家人反而成了受害者,被送进狮子坑,被咬死。但以理被囚禁,最后获得自由和高升。
大利乌王很想救但以理,却无能为力。他却亲自见证神救了但以理。王命令人搬石头封住坑口,神却命令使者封住狮子的口,搭救但以理。最后整个事件来到逆转:王被臣子唆使高举自己,最后他谕令全国人民,要敬畏但以理的神。大利乌王被降卑,神的威信高升。
世人因悖逆神而沉沦在罪中,圣子耶稣为了救赎罪人,自愿成了肉身,进入狮子坑”—被钉十字架,死了埋葬了,降到阴间。但父神封住死亡的口,叫耶稣从死里复活,死亡的权势不能败坏他。耶稣从死亡中走出来,战胜那恶者。他的胜利也是信靠他的人的胜利。
今天主耶稣呼召我们来跟从他,与他连结,住在他里面。他应许赐给我们足够的恩典和能力。让我们来忠心于主,高于一切;单单事奉他,敬拜他,时刻默想他的话语,向他祈求。这样我们必定活得无忧无惧、自由自在。
我们面对『狮子坑』的威胁,也不必怕遭害。我们无需沮丧和妥协,因为慈爱的神是我们及时的帮助。他会保守和搭救我们平安地从『狮子坑』走出来。这样世人就看见我们事奉的神,是一位又真又活,伟大的神。

眼瞎好过心瞎

约翰福音九1 23
耶稣叫瞎子重见光明
耶稣与门徒走在路上,遇见一位瞎眼的乞丐。他天生就是瞎眼的。门徒就问耶稣:『这人生来瞎眼,是不是因为他犯了罪,或是他的父母犯了罪?』(2)
当时犹太人认为犯罪和受苦有因果关系。今天很多人也这样看事情。耶稣没有直接答复。他将谴责罪转移到神对人的怜悯与恩典上。他要我们看见神的工作,并且归荣耀给神。耶稣说:『不是他犯了罪,也不是他的父母犯了罪,而是要在他身上彰显神的作为。』(3节)
耶稣接着吐唾沫在地上,用唾沫和了一点泥,把泥抹在瞎子的眼睛上,对他说:『你去西罗亚池洗一洗吧。西罗亚就是奉差遣的意思。瞎子就去了、洗完了、走的时候,就看见了。』(6-7)
耶稣奉圣父差遣来到世上做工。他是世上的光和生命的活水!他差遣瞎子去到西罗亚池,就是『奉差遣』的池。瞎子听从差遣去了,用池水洗眼。他的眼睛就睁开了,得见光明!耶稣的医治方法呼应《创世记第二章》,耶和华神用地上的尘土造人。
瞎眼的乞丐:看见、相信和敬拜耶稣
这里最大的神迹不是瞎子得看见,而是他的心得看见,得救了!经文告诉我们,瞎子对耶稣的认识与日趋增,并且相信耶稣,敬拜他,正如敬拜荣耀父上帝那样。
先前邻居问他,你的眼睛怎么开的呢?他回答:『有一个人名叫耶稣,他……吩咐我去洗,我一洗就看见了』(11节)
这时候,瞎子的眼睛开了,但是他没有看见耶稣。他只是听过耶稣的声音。瞎子接着被带到发利赛人那里接受检验。法利赛人是宗教领袖。他们有权力查验和宣告一个人是否蒙医治,得洁净了。
法利赛人问他,耶稣开了你的眼睛,你说他是怎样的人呢?他回答说: 『这位耶稣是个先知……』(17节)
耶稣之后找着这个人,就问他:『你相信人子,或神的儿子吗?你看见他了。他正在向你说话。』
他说:『主啊,我相信!』他跟着向耶稣跪拜(38节)
这位的瞎子重见光明后就相信耶稣,敬拜耶稣。他得救了!接着,他在宗教领袖的面前,勇敢为耶稣做见证,不惜被宗教领袖赶出会堂,为信仰付出代价。当时被赶出会堂代表一个人被咒诅永远与神,与人隔绝。瞎子大胆见证耶稣的医治来自神,呼应耶稣所说,要在瞎子身上显出神的作为!
这位是天生就瞎眼的人。他没有机会观赏世界的美和亲人的样貌。这是很不幸和迷惘的人生。我们今天活在世上也面对许多苦难、荒谬、生命脆弱和变幻不测的情景。许多事是讲不清的。好心有好报,勤劳有收获,真的吗?
我们的学业、事业、婚姻和身体都会经历沮丧和挫败,但这都不能为我们生命作出结论,指控我们失败了,完了!原因是,我们不是无所依靠的。主耶稣在我们生命中做工,叫我们得到救赎、医治,能够写出新的一页,犹如當年他在瞎子生命里作工那样。
今天我们要在各个方面都信靠主耶稣,听从他的吩咐去到西罗亚池,作主的工。透过服从主和事奉主,我们可以愈来愈认识主和经历他的恩典。我们会看见看见主的奇妙工作,并且经历到充满爱,喜乐和平安的生命。
瞎子遇见这光耶稣,就得看见、相信他和敬拜他,归荣耀给神。然而,有一些人就是抗拒光。他们看不见神的工作,结果继续活在苦毒与黑暗中。这些人就是瞎子的邻居、瞎子的父母和法利赛人。他们在属灵上瞎了,因为他们犯上这些缺失:
邻舍:怀疑、习以为常、自我中心、冷漠
瞎子的邻舍,就是那些素常见他讨饭的人,带着怀疑的眼神问:『这个能够看见的人,真的是以前那位瞎子乞丐吗?可能样子相似而已?』
乞丐回答:『是啊,我就是从前那位瞎眼乞丐!』
瞎子的邻舍没有为瞎子得看见而感恩和兴奋。他们怀疑这个得看见的人就是先前的瞎子。以前他们有施舍给瞎子,但是从来没有低下身,留意到瞎子。他们对事情的『怀疑、习以为常,自我中心,冷漠』的态度,使自己不懂珍惜身边的人和事,看不见神的作为。他们继续活在属灵的盲目中。
神明明做工了、教会发光了、别人有贡献了,但有人还是看不见。他们没有改变、没有感动、生活如常的忙碌、自我中心。这些人继续活在黑暗中,没有喜乐、没有方向、随波逐流,生命很消极。
法利赛人:傲慢、苦毒、妒嫉、自我防卫和贪恋权力
耶稣是光,光照在黑暗里,瞎子得看见,并且对耶穌的认识逐漸上升;……从那人、耶稣、先知、从上帝而来,到敬拜他为主。
法利赛人和犹太人领袖仍然一成不变!他们很顽梗和不信。
法利赛人非常关注律法。他们坚持在安息日行医治一定不是神的工作。他们执着本身的神学正确多过怜悯人。他们错过了耶稣这位安息日的主。他在安息日医治人,带给人真安息。
法利赛人着眼自己的地位和权柄,过于上帝的启示和工作。他们锲而不舍否定耶稣是神差派来做工。他们还要消灭瞎子重见光明的见证(18-34节)。他们招来瞎子和他的父母,连番探问和纠缠。他们全然在黑暗里,不愿意接受光。
法利赛人自甘堕入黑暗的深渊。他们纵然有眼睛看见,但是在属灵意义上是瞎的。他们看见神的作为,却是选择抵挡和不信,因此被定罪。耶稣说:『如果你们是瞎眼的就没有罪了,但现在你们说,我们能看见,所以你们还是有罪的。』(41节)
这点呼应之前的记载:『耶稣是光,来到世界,到了自己的地方,自己的人却不认识他,也不接受他……』(一9-11
法利赛人的疑心、苦毒、妒嫉、自我防卫和贪恋权力地位,使到他们看不见恩典,看不见上帝的作为,结果他们没有喜乐、怜悯和内心满足感。
今天你的心充满着什么,使你看不见神的作为?让我们回转,敞开我们心、放下批评和论断的灵;带着饥渴慕义和受教的心来朝见神,来与他人合作做主工。我们当自我降卑,倒空,放下一些自我的利益执着、计算和防卫,也放下一些传统的包袱和既定的看法。
让我们敞开心怀去接纳每位弟兄姐妹,纵然当中有人曾经做错事或冒犯我们。我们必须做到严以律己,宽以待人!让我们的心胸广阔去接受一件新事,因为神是做新事的神。
瞎子的父母:逃避、冷漠、明哲保身、自我防卫
犹太人领袖质问瞎子的父母,问他们:『这是你的儿子吗?他是天生就瞎眼的吗?』
瞎子的父母回答:『他是我们的儿子。他是天生瞎眼的。但是我们不知道他如何得看见。他已经是成人,他自己会回答。』
瞎子的父母不敢承认光,不为儿子得看見而积极宣布得医治,因为害怕犹人赶他们出会堂。他们选择逃避、冷淡、自保和防卫。他们认为儿子得医治反而会带给他们麻烦。他们要与儿子划清界线。他们没有作见证的良知和勇气。他们是沉默的大多数。虽然神作工了,但是他们的生命没有反映感恩、喜乐和平安。
结论:
瞎子看见了,但是他的邻舍、父母和法利赛人,却是瞎眼了。今天看见神在生命里的作工的人,就得进入光明,远离黑暗。这样的人生,纵然活在混乱和不明白当中,还是有喜乐、享受生命、活得踏实和有方向。
今天我们来服从耶稣的差遣,去到西罗亚池作主工。耶稣要给我们活水,洗净我们的污秽。他是世上的光,要照亮我们,叫我们得看见,生命经历转变,活出敬拜人生。这种生命是蒙福,满有喜乐和有意义的。
我们当留意那些不幸的人群,认识他们的苦境和伸出援手帮助他们。我们要放下自我防卫、妒忌、苦毒和冷漠的心。我们要积极的去爱人,接纳人,欣赏身边的人和事,并且勇于为真理作见证,为公义说话。
这样我们就会看见神在我们周遭行了奇妙的工作。我们就必然经历喜乐平安,生命维持坚韧和积极向前冲刺。

Sail the Stormy Waters



Mark 4: 35-41
Jesus Calms a Storm
As usual, Jesus was teaching around the Sea of Galilee. Among the listeners were his disciples and a crowd. When evening had come, Jesus said to his disciples: “Let us go across (in-through) to the other side.”
The disciples agreed with Jesus’ suggestion, and they took Jesus with them in the boat; other boats were with them.
After teaching them for one day, Jesus intended to test his disciples through this experience of crossing the sea. He wanted to reveal if they had indeed learned the lesson of faith. Faith comes from hearing, and it needs to go through (in-through) and not “go over” trials or practice. The former emphasizes trials and learning process, the latter divine deliverance.
While the boat was on the sea, a great storm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. The disciples were seasoned fishermen, and they had always been fishing in this sea. Despite their experience, they panicked when faced with such a terrible storm.
We would be anticipating the outcome. Would they be able to go through the strong wind and huge waves to reach the other side of the sea?
The disciples wrestled with the sea and were very miserable. However, Jesus did not notice and was sleeping nonchalantly in the stern. Jesus was not afraid of the battering of the waves; he was sound asleep in spite of the dangerous and terrible situation.
Jesus is telling us that when faced with such a storm, we have a second option, that is to be sleeping soundly like him.
The disciples couldn’t help but to wake him up. They said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are going to die?”
They were very afraid of the storm and were grumbling against him for his apparent unconcern. Today, we will also be very fearful when we face storms and hardships in our lives. Many a time, God will remain silent and we will grumble against God for not watching over us.
The storm did not wake Jesus; it was the disciples who couldn’t wait to wake Jesus up.
Jesus got up from his sleep, rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And just like that, the storm went still and everything was very serene.
Jesus rebuked the storm in the same way he would rebuke evil spirits. In ancient Canaanite culture, the storm or great waters (sea) represents the evil forces, and only God can subdue it. Jesus himself had the power to subdue the force of the sea. He does not require any help from a higher authority or power.
With Jesus in the Boat We Can Smile Through the Storm
After Jesus calmed the storm, instead of assuring his disciples that he understood their feelings, he rebuked them, saying, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
What Jesus meant was, you should know me better than this! Do not be surprised when you face a storm, because those who follow me will go through storms. Can’t you trust in me and persevere through the storm when you face such situations? I am in the boat with you, I did not abandon you!
After the storm was calmed, the disciples were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
The disciples witnessed Jesus’ power over the storm, and they were very terrified. Jesus has power that is greater than the storm and beyond our grasp. He does not act according to our plans or in a way we deem reasonable.
However, he will not destroy us. He is a God who cares for us. He is omnipotent and omniscient; compassionate and merciful. This alone is enough for us to be fearless when we are in a storm with him. We are to continue to trust in him and to depend on him to go break through the storm.
The focus of this narrative is not calling on Jesus to deliver us from hardships. The main focus is to train the disciples to grow in faith.
Today, Jesus is also inviting us, whether as individuals or as a church, to go across to the other side of the sea with him. This is a journey of faith where we can exercise our faith, to break through boundaries and broaden our horizons. This is where we will achieve greater heights whether as an individual or as a church. We have been stagnant for a very long time, now let us ride with Jesus!
In this journey with our Lord who loves us, he allows us to be battered by storms because he wants to achieve some higher purposes: to allow our faith to grow; to discipline us so that we come back to the right path; to build up our spiritual life; to know God better, or to learn to support each other.
Everything in this world needs to go through resistance and put to the test before it can be useful, before it can be as pure gold. How can we build muscle without exercising? Without the wind going against the plane, how can a plane get enough lift to fly upwards?
Jesus told His disciples, “Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” (Luke 24:26)
The phrase “have to” shows that suffering is a certainty in the journey of faith. Jesus himself went through great suffering. Similarly, His disciples will enter into the glory that God has promised us after we go through suffering or storms.
The greatness of Jesus comes from His love, a love that motivates him to lead by example and go through all that we have to go through first, up to the point where he even experienced death. However, He was raised from the dead! Therefore, with his great power, he can help those who goes through suffering and storms in their journey of faith.
Jesus is the God with power beyond our understanding; His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. He has the authority to control any situation. He is also our kind and loving God. Submitting ourselves into His hand is the safest thing to do.
Jesus promised that He will cross over with us to the other side of the sea. Although the journey might not be smooth sailing, He will be there to protect us and see us to the other shore.
Jesus promised to His people, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 14:27, 16:33)
No matter the circumstances, whether it is the strong wind and huge waves crashing over you, all you need to do is to revere and serve our Lord Jesus, submit your needs to Him, and depend on Him.
Why are you afraid when Jesus is in the boat with us? His grace is sufficient for us. In Christ, we can go through the storm and reach the other side of the sea. In fact, the real problem of our lives is not the external storms, but our internal faith, whether it is easily shaken or not.
That is why Jesus asked His disciples in this manner: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Obviously, the disciples failed this test of faith.
Do you want to go over to the other side of the sea? Is there any storm coming towards you? Do not try to run away from it. Instead, face it. The Lord is with you. By His power and grace, you can go through the storm and still find peace in it.
Jesus is the Jonah of the End Time
The words that Mark used in his narrative of Jesus and his disciples encountering the storm on the Lake of Galilee echoed the story of Jonah and the storm.
Both Jonah and Jesus were in a boat, on the verge of being swallowed up by the storm. Both Jesus and Jonah were asleep. In both stories, the sailors woke them up and said, “We are going to die!” In both stories, God in His great power intervened and calmed the storm. In both stories, the sailors were even more afraid after the storm had been calmed.
However, there is a slight difference in these stories. Amidst the huge waves, Jonah told the sailors, “If I die, all of you will live.” So they threw him into the sea.
The story in Mark does not have this part. However, is there really no such “substitute sacrifice” in the whole of Mark’s narrative?
In chapter 12 of the gospel of Matthew, Jesus pointed to himself and said, here is one who is greater than Jonah. Jesus is saying that He is the real Jonah who one day will achieve victory over all the storms and calms all the waves of humanity. At that time, He will destroy death and mend the chasm between God and man. How did He do it?
Jesus did it by dying on the cross as a substitute for sinners, just like Jonah was willingly thrown overboard into the fiercest vortex. But the vortex that Jesus was thrown into was the final storm that would ultimately drown all of us, that is, the righteous judgement of our sins. It is the deadly debt of our sins. This storm will not stop until it is removed.
Jesus jumped into this storm, sacrificing his life for sinners. It is a very shocking picture, which leaves us unable to complain or doubt: “My Lord, do you not care about me?”
Jesus is with you in that final storm, He did not abandon you, He even died for you. Today, as you face life’s various trials, why do you think that He will leave you and abandon you?
Invite Jesus into your hearts today, so that you might feel His love for you, His understanding and care for you. Jesus wants to give you the anointing of the Holy Spirit, that your faith and strength might increase, that you might be able to face any situation in life. Jesus wants to help you and also help the church to go through the storm to the other side of the sea!
On the other side, we will arrive on high ground, we will see further, receive more blessings, more grace. Let us accept Jesus’ invitation to sail with him in the boat.

基督里超越境遇的喜乐
保罗蒙召做外邦人的使徒。他终其一生为传福音的事工吃尽苦头。他在哥林多后书11:22-29列举自己受过的苦:
『他们是希伯来人么?我也是。他们是以色列人么?我也是。他们是亚伯拉罕的后裔么?我也是。他们是基督的仆人么?(我说句狂话)我更是。我比他们多受劳苦,多下监牢,受鞭打是过重的,冒死是屡次有的。被犹太人鞭打五次,每次四十减去一下;被棍打了三次;被石头打了一次,遇着船坏三次,一昼一夜在深海里。又屡次行远路,遭江河的危险、盗贼的危险,同族的危险、外邦人的危险、城里的危险、旷野的危险、海中的危险、假弟兄的危险。受劳碌、受困苦,多次不得睡,又饥又渴,多次不得食,受寒冷,赤身露体。除了这外面的事,还有为众教会挂心的事,天天压在我身上。有谁软弱,我不软弱呢?有谁跌倒,我不焦急呢?』
保罗写了这封信函给腓立比教会。这里的信徒也因信仰受逼迫。保罗在他们的困境中坚固他们。保罗是在监狱里写这封信。他也为自己的信仰受苦,但他展现『基督徒不论身处何种境况,都能喜乐自在』的姿态我们如何能够攀登此境界呢?
12-14
我们可以在逆境中成就美好的事

保罗在牢狱中,他应该是心怀苦毒,或者放弃服侍神,但他看这是扬福音的机会。保罗认为情况好坏不是关键,如何处理当前的情况才是关键。他选择在恶劣的情况产生好的果子。他在受禁锢的地方向罗马皇宫侍卫传福音。
其他信徒们看见保罗的积极行为,就更加勇敢去传扬福音。保罗的胆量是有感染力的。保罗为此感到欢喜快乐。
今天我们不再牢中。我们还是有经历挫折的机会,譬如经历财务重担、生病、家庭冲突教会冲突,或者是丢失工作。这时候我们会感到很沮丧。我们在逆境中的抉择和行动,反映出我们对神的信心。
我们靠着神的恩典,可以在糟糕的情况生出美好的果子。即使在苦难中,我们仍然可以生出喜乐。我们要善用苦难来塑造我们的性格,不要轻易地怨天尤人或者任由苦难拆毁我们。
不管恶劣的情况是否改善,当我们无畏无惧坚定性靠神,为基督作见证,我们的信心会益发刚强。我们因此也会勉励别人信靠神而得喜乐。让你的生命成为别人的勉励吧!
15-19
当保持无私的态度

保罗知道有些人传福音是要打响自己的名气,或是乘人之危,借他被监禁的事,为自己立名。尽管他们传道的动机不良,因为福音被传开来,保罗就欢喜快乐。若我们把神国度的福泽摆在我们自己的损失之上,我们仍然可以欢喜快乐。
其实保罗在有生之年未曾风光过。他不曾以超级使徒的形象出现。事实刚好相反,他遭自己一手建立起来的会众质疑和毁谤。他实际上只有少过15年的活跃服侍。他多方吃尽苦头,包括在监狱度日。
这种仿似时不予我,壮志未酬本可以使保罗变得沮丧和犬儒。他大可沉溺于自怜和绝望中就放弃服侍神。然而,他坚定地把自己的事工和苦难看成是神给他的命定或使命。
保罗在歌林多前书43-4节说:『我被你们论断,或被人间法庭审判,我都认为是极小的事,连我自己也不论断自己。我虽然问心无愧,却不能因此自为义,因为判断我的是主。』
保罗顺服神的呼召,发挥了非比寻常的信心。
现在我们终于看见神作工的奇妙。他不仅借用保罗在罗马被监禁这事,把福音带到帝国的中心,也给保罗大把时间写信。有一天,这些信就成为新约圣经举足轻重的部分,为后世信徒提供许多教导和勉励。
当然,那必须在百多年过后,教会才有共识去肯定保罗是最伟大的使徒,而他写的书信是圣经正典。保罗的忠心服侍神终于生出不朽的果子。神是信实的,他真的奖赏祂的伟大的仆人。
今天,我们身处逆境或低微处,也当无私和坚毅地迈步向前,忠心服侍神,完成他托付我们的使命。神必要尊崇和奖赏我们,就算那奖赏只在遥远的未来才能实现。因此我们可以欢喜快乐。我们不单为今生而活,我们有盼望在永恒里与神同在!
20-26
为主而活,以他作我们生命的中心

保罗在受软禁,等候受审时,以为自己会被释放出狱。无论被释放或被处死,保罗的祷告是:务必勇敢述说基督,毫不胆怯或羞耻。
保罗登高一呼,宣告因我活着就是基督,我死了就有益处(21)
不管是生是死,保罗都想要高举基督。保罗发现他整个生命的活着的意义,就是要服侍基督敬拜基督变得更像基督,并且告诉别人有关基督的事。保罗也信心十足地说,死了甚至比活着还好,因为死能使他免去属世的麻烦,不单如此,他还能面对面与基督相见。
对所有信靠主的人,死亡没什么好怕的,因为通过死亡,我们直接进入神的同在。若你没有预备好死,那么你就没有预备好活着。你若确定了你永恒的归宿,你就能自由淡定的过活,无惧死亡;你就能奉献自己当作活祭给神使用,成就神在你的生命的计划,去完成有神国度价值的事。
保罗在这两种渴望之间感到左右为难:是要与基督同在,对他来说是更好的,或是继续活着,叫他可以服侍教会信徒的需要。最后,保罗说:『因你们的缘故,我最好还是继续活着。』
保罗把教会的福泽看得比他要与基督同在的渴望重要。他在服侍腓立比信徒和其他人的时候,找到他活着的意义和目的。
对不相信耶稣是救主的人,今世的生命就是一切。他们把自己的盼望和目的都放在罗曼蒂克的爱情事业政治或社交关系金钱、地位或财富,以及它们能为我们做的事上。这些都是美好的东西,追求它们并没有错。不过,一旦我们把它们当成是终极目标,或是把它们神化,奉为我们人生的中心,那就中了魔鬼的诡计了!
结果,人毕其一生营营役役奋斗,直到盲目了而忽略了很重要的一点:唯有神才能满足人灵性深切的渴慕。实际上,所有外在美好的事物都无法满足人里头深切的渴慕,因为它们不过是偶像假神
若你把它们任何一种奉为人生的最终目的,它就要让你大失所望了。首先,它要奴役你。不管那是什么东西,你会告诉自己说,一定要拥有它,不然就没有明天可言。因此当出现任何事物威胁它,你就感觉极度害怕;若有人拦阻你拥有它,你就万分生气;若你无法达成它,世人无法原谅你,你自己也不原谅自己。
其次,你若真的达成它,它却无法带给你所期待的满足感。不仅如此,它甚至可加剧你心里头的空虚。我们不难发现许多世人敬仰的成功人士,在他们人生高峰的时候出现忧郁、沮丧,或是自寻短见。
脱离“假神”的奴役唯一的途径就是转向基督我们信心的创始成终者。基督为我们的罪死在十字架上。我们若接受基督的救恩,我们也向自己死去,并且与基督一起复活。今天凡我们所有的,都是祂的。祂是我们的主,我们属于祂。我们不再只是为自己而活。
让我们一生顺服基督,以为基督而活“成为我们人生的终极目的。也就是说,奉基督为我们生命的中心。信靠与服侍基督会带给我们生命一份无以伦比的满足和幸福,乃是超越环境的好与坏。
我们仍可渴求外面的美好事物,譬如:事业或学业成功爱的关系健康和财富,但是别让它们取代基督为我们人生的中心。“有基督就满足了;祂是唯一的救主。你若得着祂,祂就能满足你,若你在某些事上让祂失望,祂也会饶恕你。
结语
今天我们应当效法保罗:预备好在逆境中成就美好的事情;保持一份无私的态度,让基督成为我们生命的中心。我们就能体验到超乎所有境遇的喜乐平安满足祷告感恩,充满我们的生命。

Life-Changing Encounters with Jesus



John 4: 1-16
Jesus Talks to the Samaritan Woman
Jesus and His disciples left Judea and went back towards Galilee. They had to go through Samaria, and they came to a town in Samaria called Sychar. Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well.
It was about noon, and a Samaritan woman came to the well to draw water. Jesus’ disciples had gone into the town to buy food, so Jesus had the opportunity to talk to the woman alone. Jesus said to her, “Will you give me some water to drink?”
The Samaritan woman was surprised, and she said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for water?”
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
“Sir”, the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Jesus used “living water” as a symbol to represent the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit regenerates, giving us inner satisfaction. The woman wanted to draw water from the well, but Jesus wanted to work the Holy Spirit in her life.
Today, the people on this earth think that they can use external things to satisfy the emptiness and desires of their hearts. These external things could be love, career success, power, fame, status, wealth and so on. However, Jesus had proclaimed that only He could give us true satisfaction and happiness.
We often hear people say that they feel empty today, or that they are not living a fulfilling life. Or that they are confused, not knowing what their purpose in life is. They think that it is because they have not achieved the external things listed above.
They tell themselves that as long as they work hard, one day they will receive all these things and they will be happy and satisfied. In the pursuit of all these things, people are blinded to the fact that the dissatisfaction they feel is due to the hunger of their hearts which only God can satisfy.
Each and every one of us lives for a purpose. Jesus says that we would never be satisfied until and unless He is our purpose.
It is not wrong that people pursue love, career success, health, wealth and so on in order to have a better life. God also wants to bless us with all these things. However, if we think that after receiving these things, we will surely be happy and satisfied, then we are wrong.
When we face obstacles in our pursuit of these things, we will be frustrated or even angry. If we fail, we would be depressed, maybe even not able to forgive ourselves. If we succeed, we would find that the happiness and satisfaction that success bring are but temporary. We are not really happy and satisfied, and maybe we would feel even more empty.
Jesus says that we will only find true happiness and satisfaction that comes from our hearts when we worship Him and let Him be the lord of our lives.
The external things that we pursue are idols. Idols are not real and living gods. Idols do not die for sinners; idols do not redeem mankind. Jesus is the true and living God. He died for sinners and redeemed mankind. Idols disappoint; Jesus satisfies the hunger of our lives.
This Samaritan woman was on the brink of despair. It was easy for her to see the dawn of life in Jesus. She said immediately, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
Unexpectedly, this “sir” exposed the sufferings of her private life. Jesus said, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
“I have no husband,” she replied.
Jesus insisted that she faced the truth, so He said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband.”
Why did Jesus suddenly bring up the woman’s husband? Was Jesus trying to shame her?
Of course not. Jesus wanted to lead her to first understand the problem that she had.
Jesus wanted her to know that, all this while, she had been looking for satisfaction and happiness from a man, and this was wrong. This had caused her to suffer abandonment from men and even lived in sin.
Only by obtaining the “living water” from Jesus could she be saved, giving her life happiness and satisfaction.
Although the woman was very astonished by Jesus’ knowledge of her dark secret, she did not leave that place. She chose to get closer to Jesus, even brought the conversation with Him into the topic of worshipping God.
“Sir”, the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem… The true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth…” (verse 23)
To “worship in the Spirit and in truth” is to be filled with the Holy Spirit, worshipping God with the truth that Jesus has revealed to us.
After listening to Jesus’ words, the woman knew more about Jesus, and she responded, “Sir, I see that you are a prophet (verse 10) …. I know that Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
From seeking for water at the well to seeking for living water, then worshipping God; from calling Jesus a Jew, then “sir”, “prophet”, then Christ, we can see that the woman increased in her knowledge of Jesus and subsequently displayed a leap of faith!
Jesus told the woman confidently, “I, the one speaking to you, I am the Christ that you speak of.” (verse 26)
Jesus’ proclamation challenged the woman’s response. The woman immediately took a fresh step of faith, dropped her water jar and ran back into town (verse 28).
The woman came to the well from far away to draw water. However, her action of dropping the water jar signified that she had left her past, burdens and materialistic pursuits behind. This was because she had received the living water from Jesus.
The thirst of her spirit had been satisfied. Her life had been renewed and experienced a breakthrough.
Conclusion
The Bible tells us that sin is not only murder or some serious crimes. In the case of this Samaritan woman, the cause of sin was the search for happiness and satisfaction through things outside of God: idols.
The sin here was breaking the first of the Ten Commandments, “You shall have no other gods before me.”
These “idols” could be other humans, or it could be an ideology, or lots of material things such as love, career success, power, fame, status, wealth and so on.
Jesus wants us all to repent and to be aware of what we really thirst after: temporary satisfaction or long-lasting satisfaction through a relationship with God by believing in Jesus.
The Holy Spirit will then work in our lives, transforming and renewing us in order that we may obtain satisfaction and happiness in our lives. This is the everlasting life that Jesus promised us. It will be like a stream of living water flowing out from within, that the environment will also be affected by the power of God’s salvation.
“Idols” do not die for our sins. Only Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and only He is able to save. If we have Jesus, we will also have satisfaction and happiness. If we fail and sin against God some way or other, God will still forgive our sins.
The Samaritan woman’s life was turned around after her meeting with Jesus. She obtained the living water from Jesus, and she left her water jar, ran back to her people in the town and became the first missionary.
In the past, she hid from everyone else, but now she was the one who proclaimed to them, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” (verse 29)
The woman became a witness for Christ, telling the people of God’s works in her life. She discarded her water jar, and instead became a vessel of living water, bringing people to Jesus!
Through her testimony, many Samaritans came to Jesus and urged Him to stay with them. They heard His words in person and believed in Him, building a relationship with him (4:32-42).
Only Worship the Lord Jesus and Thirst for Him
Initially, Jesus was the one who was thirsty and asked for a drink from the woman. In the end, He was the one who gave her living water. Jesus is the eternal and holy Son of God; all creation was created through Him. But He emptied Himself, gave up the glories of heaven and was incarnated as a human, being restricted by tiredness and thirst just to give the world living water.
While He was on the cross, just before He died, he cried out, “I am thirsty”! This was not an ordinary thirst. It was a thirst from deep within His soul because He carried the burden of sin of the whole world. The Heavenly Father, the source of the living water, turned His face away from Jesus and abandoned Him on the cross.
Jesus had to experience such a cosmic thirst in order for our thirst to be quenched. He died in order that we may live again. He did it gladly because He loves us. He sacrificed Himself unconditionally for us, freely giving us His grace and salvation.
Let us continuously fix our eyes on the cross and understand the sufferings Jesus had to endure to obtain salvation for us. In this way, may the Holy Spirit convict us to discard all “idols” and worship and love Jesus above all.
